The Franklin Tech golf team is hoping for a third straight state tournament appearance, and so far this season, the Eagles have shown this squad is more than capable of achieving that goal. 

Behind a 35 from Gabe Mota, Franklin Tech walked away with a 156-170 victory over Athol on a rainy day at Thomas Memorial Wednesday. The Eagles improved to 8-1 on the season with the win. 

Will Belval shot a 39, Jack Day carded a 40 while Grady Deery came in with a 42 to seal the win for Tech. Ethan Heuer shot a 35 while Dominik St. Andre (42), Owen Stoddard (46) and Brandon Adams (47) rounded out the scoring for the Bears. 

Girls soccer

Greenfield 4, Franklin Tech 0 — Elderina Cecunjanin scored twice in the first half and lit up the scoreboard a pair of times in the second half as well, propelling the Wave past the Eagles on Wednesday in Greenfield. 

Tayler Bergeron and Sarah McCloud tallied assists while Annie Cobileanschi made eight saves for Greenfield. Kylee Gamache stopped 14 shots for Franklin Tech. 

Hopkins 7, Mahar 0 — Jaya McBroom made 11 saves for the Senators in a loss to the Golden Hawks in Hadley Wednesday. 

Helen Vissas scored a pair of goals for Hopkins. 

 Girls volleyball

Turners 3, Franklin Tech 2 — The Thunder went to a fifth set for the fourth time this season but were able to come from behind to earn a 13-25, 25-14, 18-25, 25-14, 25-11 victory over the host Eagles on Wednesday.

Madi Liimatainen smashed 17 kills and 12 aces while making three digs, Maddie Dietz dished 24 assists and added six aces while Tatianna Carr-Williams recorded six kills, two blocks and one dig for Turners. 

Emmy Nash recorded one kill, one assist and one block, Emma Petersen had two aces, five kills and eight digs, Sarah Beckwith tallied eight aces, three kills and nine digs while Madison Pettengill had two aces, six kills, six digs and five blocks for Franklin Tech. 

Mahar 3, Pioneer 0 — Behind five aces, two digs and nine assists from Madelynn Burgess, the Senators earned a 25-17, 25-13, 25-22 sweep over the Panthers in Orange Wednesday. 

Hayden Comeau tallied three aces, five kills and two blocks, Mia Santana had a pair of aces and four kills while Mckenzie Scribner and Turin Gurganus each had one kill and one dig for Mahar. 

Greta Lewis finished with three aces, six digs, two blocks and two kills, Jacobia Tyminski had one ace, seven digs, two kills and two blocks while Kiara Gruzskowski tallied five digs, one block and one kill for Pioneer. 

Field hockey

Smith Academy 2, Mahar 1 — Alexa Jagodzinski scored the game-winner with 1:20 left on the clock, propelling the Falcons past the Senators in Hatfield Wednesday. 

Westfield 3, Mohawk Trail 0 — Shea Hurley scored twice in the Bombers’ victory over the Warriors on Wednesday. 

Izabelle Finn made nine saves for Mohawk Trail. 

Turners 3, Northampton 2 — Ella Larouche scored twice while Ledwin Villafana tallied a goal and an assist in the Thunder’s victory over the Blue Devils on Wednesday. 

Larouche’s second goal came in the fourth quarter and proved to be the game-winner. 

Boys soccer

Athol 6, Putnam 2 — Brent Boudreau and Cooper Smith each tossed in a pair of goals as the Bears picked up their first win of the season with a triumph over Putnam in Athol Wednesday. 

Karim Thompson and Seidou also found the back of the net while Thompson, Landon Collins, Seidou and Jack Waslaske provided the assists. Drake Wing stopped three shots for Athol. 

Four Rivers 3, Putney 2 — Cooper Whitney scored a pair of goals in the Otters’ triumph on Wednesday. 

Eliot Sanborn added a goal in the win.

Michael LaPlante came in sixth (22:34), Solomon Burke took eighth (22:35) and Joseph Burke placed ninth (22:35) for the Senators in a meet in Orange Tuesday.
