HS Roundup: Four goal first half lifts Turners boys soccer past rival Greenfield

After the Greenfield boys soccer team took the lead in the eighth minute against rival Turners, the Thunder attack picked up the pace.
Turners knotted the score one minute later and proceeded find the back of the net three more times in the first half to take a 4-1 lead at the intermission.
The Green Wave were unable to get back in it during the final 40 minutes of action, as the Thunder picked up a 5-2 victory in Greenfield Friday.
Nathan Gheorghita scored in the seventh minute off an assist from Jack Laurie to give Greenfield the lead but Turners’ Moises Borrayes answered one minute later off a dish from Noah Kolodziej to tie the game.
Yolvin Ovalle-Mejia tallied in the 11th minute, Kolodziej scored in the 17th minute and Borrayes scored a second goal in the 34th minute, giving the Thunder their 4-1 halftime lead.
Ovalle-Mejia scored for Turners in the second half while Clivens Carter Michel converted a penalty kick for the Wave’s second half tally. John Ramirez-Martin made one save for the Thunder while Liam Grahame-Lawson made 12 saves for Greenfield.
Mount Everett 3, Franklin Tech 0 — Mount Everett scored all three of its goals in the opening 20 minutes to knock off Tech in Turners Friday.
Philip Enoch, Evan Macy and Leo Valasquez tallied for Mount Everett.

Greenfield 9, West Springfield 0 — The goals came early and often for the Green Wave, with Henley Gilstrap and Kyra Tamsin each scoring twice and dishing an assist while Kenzie Boswell recorded two goals in Greenfield’s triumph over the Terriers in Greenfield Friday.
Riley Thayer scored and added two assists while Gloria McDonald and Madison Lemay also scored in the win. The Wave defense didn’t allow a shot on goal.
Frontier 8, Holyoke 1 — Macy DeMaio put in a hat trick as the Redhawks rolled to a victory over the Purple Knights in South Deerfield Friday.
Ashlie Galenski, Ashley Taylor, Rowan Reilly, Lauryn Kalinowski and Addie Harrington also recorded goals, with Claire Kirkendall, DeMaio, Harrington Harper Modestow and Kate Walker providing the assists. Kyra Richards made two saves and Brooke Charest made two saves in the win.
Smith Vocational 3, Franklin Tech 2 — After splitting the first four sets, the Vikings pulled away in the decisive fifth set to knock off the Eagles 12-25, 25-20, 16-25, 25-23, 15-8 in Turners Friday.
Madison Pettengill put down seven kills to go along with 14 digs, four assists and five blocks, Sarah Beckwith recorded three aces, nine kills, 11 digs and two assists while Lilyann Baldwin (one ace, one kill, three digs), Shelby O’Leary (two aces, 14 digs, 17 assists) and Lily Josephs (three kills, three digs, one assist) played well for Franklin Tech.
Pioneer 180, Turners 215 — Panther Cam Curtis was the match medalist with a 43, leading Pioneer past the Thunder at Thomas Memorial Friday.
Ben Werner (45), Brayden Thayer (46) and Chayton Massa (46) closed out the scoring for Pioneer.
The Athol middle school boys soccer team beat Murdock, 8-0, Friday.
Volleyball
Turners 3, Pioneer 0 — Janelle Massey put down seven kills and four aces, Maddie Dietz finished with two kills, seven aces and 13 assists, Tatianna Carr Williams had two kills and five aces while Madi Liimatainen recorded six kills, five aces and three digs in the Thunders’ 25-15, 25-10, 25-18 sweep of the Panthers in Turners Thursday.
Sophia Wood (four aces, three assists, one kill), Greta Lewis (seven digs, one kill, one block), Kiara Gruszkowski (three digs, one kill, one block) and Jacobia Tyminski (six digs, one kill) played well for Pioneer.
Mohawk Trail 3, Greenfield 0 — Emma Canaday put down six kills and dished four assists, Adrian Grant had four aces and two kills, Megan Gabree cracked three kills while Palmer King had three kills and 13 assists in the Warriors’ 25-22, 25-18, 26-24 sweep of the Green Wave on Thursday in Buckland.
Girls soccer
Franklin Tech 1, Gateway 0 — Zoey Duda scored off an assist from Carly Walsh 20 minutes into the contest — the first career varsity points for both players — which led to an Eagle victory over the Gators on Thursday in Turners.
Kylee Gamache returned from injury to make seven saves while Ariel Peters and Mady Lynde played well on the defensive end in the shutout.
