HS Roundup: Fast start propels Greenfield girls basketball past Palmer, 51-35 (PHOTOS)

The Greenfield girls basketball team came out firing against Palmer on Friday.
The Wave knocked down a trio of 3-pointers in the first quarter to race ahead, 18-6, after one. The offensive surge continued, as Greenfield pulled away with a 51-35 victory at Nichols Gymnasium on Friday.
Statistics were not available at press time.
Frontier 60, Hopkins 26 — Addie Harrington tossed in 12 points while Harper Modestow added 11 points, helping the Redhawks improve to 8-0 on the season with a Franklin County League North triumph over the Golden Hawks at Goodnow Gymnasium Friday.
Frontier led 36-14 at the half.
Jazzy Hayes finished with nine points, Olivia Machon tallied seven points and Whitney Campbell added six points in the win.
Easthampton 42, Mahar 17 — The Eagles raced ahead 16-3 at the half to defeat the Senators in a Franklin County League North contest in Orange on Friday.
Hayden Comeau and Julia Hatch each scored six points while Thea Whitmore added five points for Mahar.

Ware 51, Pioneer 29 — Ware held an 11-5 lead after eight minutes but the Panthers stormed back to cut it to 21-20 at the half.
It was all Ware in the second half though, as it pulled away with a victory at Messer Gymnasium Friday.
Maggie Tsipenyuk scored eight points to go along with seven rebounds, Charley Harrington and Kyler McClelland each scored eight points, Deveney Pillsbury scored two points and pulled down five boards while Kiara Gruszkowski added nine rebounds in the loss.
Lee 68, Mohawk Trail 21 — Natalie Lanoue scored eight points while Zephyr Jetzon tallied six points in the Warriors’ road loss to the Wildcats Friday.
Bella Pettengill added three points for Mohawk Trail.
Pioneer 67, Turners 35 — The unbeaten Panthers were hot from deep, knocking down 10 3-pointers to defeat the Thunder in Turners on Friday.
Pioneer (6-0) led 40-14 at the half.
Brayden Thayer and Alex McClelland both scored 22 points, Kurt Redeker tossed in 17 points while Jackson Glazier added two points in the victory.
Jackson Cogswell led Turners with 10 points, Caden Williams tallied nine points, Alex Quezada finished with five points, Kainen Stevens recorded four points and Davian Bala added three points in the loss.
Hoosac Valley 76, Greenfield 68 — The defending MIAA Div. 5 finalists put together a big fourth quarter to knock off the visiting Wave on Friday in Cheshire.
Greenfield erupted for 27 points in the third quarter to take a 56-50 lead into the final eight minutes but it was all Hoosac from there, as it outscored the Wave 26-12 in the fourth to earn an independent victory.
Jon Breor scored 23 points, Grayson Thomas finished with 15 points, Caleb Murray tallied 11 points and Caleb Thomas added 10 points for Greenfield.
Palmer 63, Franklin Tech 32 — The Panthers put 34 points on the board in the first half to pull away with an independent triumph over the Eagles in Turners on Friday.
Brody Hicks and Nolyn Stafford both scored seven points while Hunter Donahue, Caleb Johnston and Joe O’Donnell each had four points for Franklin Tech.
Turners 83, Renaissance 5 — Lilian Walker-Hanning won the 200 free (2:44.66) and 100 breast (1:22.72), Sylvie DiBartolomeo took the 200 IM (2:49.22) and the 500 free (6:36.68) while Jessica Schimmel won the 50 free (33.69) for the Thunder in a victory over the Phoenix on Friday in Turner s.
Tristan Bliss won the 100 fly (1:15.38), Alice Fortin took the 100 free (1:08.38), Avery Heathwaite took the 100 back (1:25.85), DiBar tolomeo, Walker-Hanning, Bliss and Heathwaite took the 200 me dley relay, Ella Sibley, Rose Fortin, Maddie Philips and Nicole Porter won the 200 free relay and Heathwaite, DiBartolomeo, Bliss and Alice Fortin took the 400 free relay for Turners.
Turners 47, Renaissance 46 — Liam Bliss won the 200 free (2:10.12) and the 100 breast (1:10.40) while Tyler Galenski took the 100 free (1:07.56), helping the Thunder squeak out a win over the Phoenix in Turners on Friday.
Wrestling
Franklin Tech 78, Mohawk Trail 6 — The Eagles won six of the seven matches wrestled, all by pin, to earn a victory over the visiting Warriors on Thursday.
Johnathan McIntyre (106), Paul Giard (113), Carsten Couture (120), Maxon Brunette (126), Landon Purington (132) and Dillon Lafond (285) were the winners for Franklin Tech while Logan Moore (157) was the lone victor for Mohawk Trail.
