HS Roundup: Big second half comeback propels Athol boys basketball past Lee, 60-56

The Athol boys basketball team is finding its stride.
The Bears made the trip to Lee — who entered the contest and unblemished 7-0 in Hampshire League North contests — on a three-game win streak and handed the Wildcats their first league loss by pulling out a 60-56 victory on the road.
It took a big second half to earn the win, as Athol trailed 37-22 at the half and 48-41 going into the fourth.
“We showed some grit tonight in a hostile environment,” Bear coach Brian Patria said. “I’m very proud of my guys staying mentally tough and coming out in second half with intensity on defense and attacking on offense. Big win for our players and program.”
Ben Kearney recorded 18 points, Logan Cormier tossed in 15 points, Ethan Goodwin recorded 11 points, Ethan Bacigalupo tallied seven points and Brandon Adams added five points in the victory for Athol.
Smith Academy 57, Franklin Tech 39 — Gabe Mota finished with 12 points in the Eagles’ road loss to the Falcons on Friday in a Hampshire League North contest.
Dylan Cullen and Nolyn Stafford both scored seven points in the loss.
Frontier 57, Lenox 52 — The Redhawks trailed the Millionaires 42-40 in the fourth but pushed ahead to earn a Hampshire League South victory in Lenox on Friday.

Pioneer 47, Athol 22 — The Panthers raced ahead 29-7 at the half to knock off the Bears at Mallet Gymnasium on Friday in Franklin County League South action.
Maggie Tsipenyuk led Pioneer with 15 points and 10 rebounds, Natalie Rios scored 12 point to go along with 10 boards and five assists, Kyler McClelland tallied 12 points and six rebounds, Kiara Gruszkowski had four points and six boards while Ahanna Berthiume scored her first varsity points in the win.
Ally Robertson finished with seven points while Madi Hermes and Ava Martin each tallied six points for Athol.
Turners 81, Hampden Charter 4 — Tristan Bliss won the 200 free (2:36.18) while Avery Heathwaite took the 200 IM (3:03.22) in the Thunders' victory on the road Friday.
Other Turners winners were Alice Fortin in the 50 free (28.56) and 100 free (1:06.25), Sylvie DiBartolomeo in the 500 free (7:09.22), Keira Feeley in the 100 back (1:53.22) and Lilian Walker-Hanning in the 100 breast (1:21.87).
Turners 78, Hampden Charter 6 — Liam Bliss took first in the 100 fly (1:02.71) and the 50 free (24.59) in Turners' road victory Friday.
Other Thunder winners were Malcolm Tyler in the 200 free (2:22.13), William Tyler in the 100 free (1:02.88), Connor Glennon in the 500 free (7:52.25), Ryker Bray in the 100 back (1:42.78) and Tyler Galenski in the 100 breast (1:31.72).
Girls basketball
Mohawk Trail 47, Franklin Tech 44 — Trailing 32-31 going into the fourth, the Warriors outscored the Eagles 16-12 in the final frame to defeat Franklin Tech in Buckland Thursday.
Valerie Bzomowski finished with 11 points, Emmalee Inman and Zephyr Jetzon both scored nine points, Bella Pettengill recorded eight points while Natalie Lanoue added seven points in the win.
Lili Inman led the Eagles with 14 points, Haleigh Benoit scored eight points whi le Hannah Gilbert and Brayleigh Burgh each scored seven points in the loss.

Four Rivers 38, Hartsbrook 34 — Kolin Broderick, Meir Dragon and Henry Schwerin each scored 10 points in the Ot ters’ win Thursday.
