How many league champions will the Recorder area have this fall? So far, three have clinched outright titles though more teams can join them.
Those three teams to already have taken home their league championships outright are the Frontier girls soccer team, the Mohawk Trail volleyball team and the Frontier girls cross country team.
It's been a dominant opening campaign for Lauren Sullivan in her first year coaching the Redhawk girls soccer team. Following an 8-9-1 season a year ago, Frontier won its opening eight games of the season this fall.
In the Pioneer League North, the Redhawks were dominant. The league title was never in doubt, as Frontier went an unblemished 10-0 in league play and outscored its opponents 56-4 in those contests. Easthampton, currently 7-2 in the league, will finish in second place.
Maddie Fagan, Skyler Steele, Carly Robertson and Jazzy Hayes have helped lead the charge offensively while an impressive back line has kept opposing attacks frustrated all season.
The Redhawks will look to parlay the success in the regular season into the postseason. As it stands Wednesday, Frontier is the No. 6 seed in the Western Mass. Class B tournament and the No. 32 ranked team in the MIAA Div. 4 state tournament field.
As for the Mohawk Trail volleyball team, the fight and resiliency it showed in its two games against Turners were truly the difference in snagging the league title away from the Thunder.
Turners had won the Northern League championship each of the last three years and this season, beat Pioneer, Franklin Tech, Greenfield, Mahar and Athol twice to earn 10 wins in the Northern League.

Against the Warriors, the Thunder went ahead 2-0 in both matches. Mohawk Trail never quit and rallied back to win the final three sets in each match to snag two wins away from Turners. That has allowed Mohawk Trail to rack up a perfect 11-0 record in the league, with the chance to finish unbeaten if it can knock off Pioneer on Thursday.
Palmer King is the straw that stirs the drink for the Warriors while seniors Jade Wheeler and Adrian Grant have also brought leadership, leading to Mohawk Trail’s success. The Warriors sit as the No. 2 seed in the Western Mass. Class D tournament and the No. 12 ranked team in the Div. 5 state tournament.
Tuesday’s win over Greenfield capped off a second straight unbeaten season for the Frontier girls cross country team, who finished 8-0 in the Pioneer League North. Sylvie DiBartolomeo, Liv Christensen, Phoebe Radner and Maia Christensen have been consistently near the top of the leaderboard throughout the season for the Redhawks, who had to fend off a tough Mohawk Trail team to take the title.
Four Recorder area teams have clinched a share of their league title.
The Bi-County East golf league came down to the final match of the season between the Pioneer and Franklin Tech golf teams at Thomas Memorial on Oct. 9. The Panthers entered with a 7-0 record in the league while the Eagles were 6-1, meaning Tech needed a win to earn a share of the league title.
Behind a 37 from Jack Day, a 41 from Gabe Mota, a 42 from Will Belval and a 45 from Grady Deery, the Eagles were able to pull out a 165-170 pull even with the Panthers.
Brayden Thayer, Ben Werner, Ethan Mauthe and Cam Curtis played near the top of the lineup and helped Pioneer get a share of the league title.
The Frontier girls soccer team won’t be the only Redhawk team hoisting a league championship banner this fall.
After falling to traditional power Longmeadow earlier in the season, the Frontier field hockey team proceeded to rip off an 11-game unbeaten streak. During that, the Redhawks avenged their loss to the Lancers, knocking off Longmeadow for the first time in over 23 years.
Missy Mahar’s squad finished their Suburban League slate with an 8-1-1 record following a tie with Minnechaug on Oct. 10. Thankfully for Frontier, the Falcons also tied Longmeadow on Tuesday, with the Lancers also finishing 8-1-1 in the Suburban League, leading to the two squads sharing the title.
Ashlie Galenski, Macy DeMaio, Stella Heflin, Addie Harrington and Ashley Taylor are just a few of the attacking players Mahar can rely on while the Redhawk defense has surrendered just 11 goals in 17 games thus far.
Frontier will be looking to add another Western Mass. title, sitting as the top ranked team in the Class C field while in the Div. 4 state tournament, the Redhawks are ranked No. 4.
The Frontier golf team also brought home a share of the Suburban League West championship, going 5-1 to finish in a tie for first with Hampshire.
The Redhawks played the Raiders in the opening match of the season and narrowly suffered a 162-163 loss. Frontier went on to win its final five league matches — including a 154-165 triumph over Hampshire the second time around — but the Raiders also finished 5-1 in the league to share the title.
Ryan Cetto, Cam Skiffington, Porter Hall, Brady Wood and Jacob Cornelison helped lead the scoring charge for the Redhawks throughout the season.
There’s still league titles up for grabs. That starts in the Moriarty League, where a contest on Monday between the South Hadley and Frontier boys soccer teams likely determined the two squads would share the league title.
Neither the Redhawks or the Tigers produced a goal on Monday, leading to a scoreless draw. Had one been able to light up the scoreboard, it would be in pole position to take home the Moriarty title.
With one league game to go, Frontier and South Hadley are both 9-1-1 in Moriarty action. The Redhawks host Southwick on Friday while the Tigers close out their league slate against Easthampton Friday.
Frontier knocked off Southwick 6-1 earlier this year while South Hadley beat Easthampton 4-0, so unless the Rams or the Eagles can pull off an upset, it’s looking like only a share of the Moriarty title is heading to South Deerfield.
It was a great week for the Pioneer boys soccer team, which positioned itself to win the Schmid League. The Panthers secured 1-0 wins over both Smith Academy and Granby, putting the Panthers in first place in the league with an 9-1-2 record with two league games to play. The Falcons (7-3-1) and the Rams (7-2-2) will need to win out and have Pioneer slip up to catch the Panthers in the Schmid title race.
It’ll be a must-watch game in Athol on Thursday between the Greenfield and Athol girls soccer teams. The Green Wave enter 8-1 in Bi-County League action while the Bears sit in first place in the league with a 9-1 record. Athol’s lone loss came on the road to Greenfield, 3-2, earlier this fall.
The winner on Thursday will be in the drivers seat to taking the Bi-County championship, a title Athol won a year ago.
Finally, it was a big Friday night for the Franklin Tech football team on the gridiron.
The Eagles held off a surging Palmer team in the second half to walk away with a 24-22 victory, giving the Panthers their first loss of the season.
Not only did Franklin Tech earn a huge victory to move to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the Intercounty North, but Athol did the Eagles a favor by knocking off Ware, 40-24, at O’Brien Field. It was the first league loss for Ware since the new leagues formed in 2021.
Franklin Tech is now the only 2-0 team in the Intercounty North with wins over Athol and Palmer, two of the teams predicted to challenge for the league title. The Eagles have a tough one with Greenfield on Friday, as the Wave are heating up offensively and are coming off a 48-14 win over Mahar.
