ORANGE — A Greenfield man won a $1 million prize in the Massachusetts State Lottery’s “$1,000,000 Merry & Bright” $5 scratch ticket game with a ticket he bought at the Orange General Store.
John Swan was joined by his wife, Tracy, when he claimed his prize at the Lottery’s Dorchester headquarters on Wednesday. According to the Massachusetts State Lottery Commission, Swan opted to receive his prize as a one-time payment of $650,000, before taxes. Swan told the Lottery he plans to buy a new home with his winnings.
An attempt by the Greenfield Recorder to contact Swan was unsuccessful on Thursday afternoon.
The Orange General Store at 217 East Main St. in Orange will receive a $10,000 bonus for its sale of the ticket.
The “$1,000,000 Merry & Bright” ticket is one of six holiday-themed tickets that launched on Oct. 15. In addition to chances to win top prizes ranging from $500 to $1 million, players can enter non-winning holiday tickets into a drawing for chances to win between $100 and $10,000.
