GREENFIELD — Greening Greenfield’s next event in its series on supporting birds will take place Monday, Feb. 24, at 6:30 p.m. at the Second Congregational Church, located at 16 Court Square.
Greenfield ecologist Pat Serrentino will give a talk titled “Sharing Your Yard with Birds: What You Can Do to Keep Them Healthy and Happy.”
Serrentino’s talk will focus on the various actions that residents can take to not only attract birds to their backyards, but keep them safe and healthy, too. These actions include providing water, bird houses and bird feeders; preventing birds from striking windows; and decreasing the use of pesticides.
“Pat Serrentino has much knowledge and experience about what it takes to create a bird-friendly space,” Dorothea Sotiros of Greening Greenfield said in a statement.
With bachelor’s and master’s degrees in biology, Serrentino has studied wildlife and their habitats in New England with an emphasis on breeding birds, wetland ecology and invasive plants for more than 40 years. She has worked to transform her small Greenfield yard into a haven for birds and other wildlife and has led Greening Greenfield’s nature walks for many years.
