GREENFIELD — Authorities are searching for three people accused of stealing a deposit bag with $1,464 from the Taco Bell/Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant on the Mohawk Trail on Tuesday.

Greenfield Police Lt. Todd Dodge said two men and a woman were seen fleeing the fast food eatery with the deposit bag and taking off in a silver Nissan Sentra at approximately 5:40 p.m.

“They swiped it when no one was looking,” Dodge said Wednesday, adding that no one was harmed.

He said a restaurant employee had assembled a deposit bag filled with money and placed it on a counter, tucked away but still visible. At this point, according to police, the employee turned around to retrieve a food order and one of the suspects placed the bag under his shirt before the three fled from the building. Dodge said the suspects were described as dark-skinned, with the men having facial tattoos and dreadlocks.

Anyone who has more information about the suspects or the vehicle they fled in is asked to call Detective Justin Purinton at 413-773-5411.

The Taco Bell/KFC location at 242 Mohawk Trail is owned by Franchise Management Inc., a restaurant franchisee based in New Brunswick, Canada. Senior marketing manager Dana Myshrall said on Wednesday that FMI was in the middle of “internal processes that are in place” when it comes to situations like this.

Dodge noted the crime committed was larceny, as robbery is defined as the taking of property from a person through force or the threat of force. Larceny is a felony if the goods or money stolen is valued at more than $1,200.
