GREENFIELD — Police Chief Todd Dodge has announced that a team of assessors from the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission is scheduled to arrive on Monday, May 19, to begin examining various aspects of the Greenfield Police Department’s policies and procedures, operations and facilities. The assessment will end on Wednesday, May 21.
Verification by the assessment team that the Police Department meets the commission’s standards is part of a voluntary process to gain and maintain state accreditation — a self-initiated evaluation process by which departments strive to meet and maintain standards that have been established for the profession.
The Massachusetts Police Accreditation Program consists of 257 mandatory standards as well as 125 optional standards. To achieve accreditation status, the department must meet all applicable mandatory standards as well as 55% of the optional standards.
GREENFIELD — The Franklin County Deanery will celebrate Divine Mercy Sunday at Blessed Sacrament Church, 221 Federal St., on Sunday, April 27.
The celebrant will be Bishop William Byrne of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Springfield. The homilist will be Deacon John Williams, transitional deacon and seminarian soon to be ordained.
Divine Mercy Sunday is celebrated on the Second Sunday of Easter, marking the continued celebration of Christ’s resurrection and recognizing the outpouring of divine mercy. The feast originated from a series of revelations to St. Maria Faustina Kowalska in the 1930s calling for a special feast day to be celebrated on the Sunday after Easter.
Confessions will begin at 1:45 p.m., followed by the service at 3 p.m. All are welcome.
GREENFIELD — A closing reception for Sarah Adam’s exhibit, “New England Dreamscapes: New Paintings on Slate,” will be held at The LAVA Center at 324 Main St. on Friday, April 25, from 5 to 8 p.m. as part of April’s Greenfield Arts Walk.
