GREENFIELD — The Friends of the Greenfield Public Library will host the 34th annual Poet’s Seat Poetry Contest celebration on Tuesday, April 29, at 6 p.m. in the library’s Community Meeting Room.
The 2025 Poet’s Seat Contest finalists will read their submissions from the three contest categories: adult, youth ages 12 to 14 and youth ages 15 to 18. Winners in each category will be announced. This contest draws poets from across Franklin County.

GREENFIELD — Greenfield Community College will host its second annual Nursing Health Expo on Saturday, April 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the college’s East Lawn. This health fair is free and open to the public, and features activities led by GCC and partner health organizations.
As a service-learning initiative, students will present on essential health topics that benefit the community, including CPR, stroke awareness, nutrition, sun safety, menstrual equity and family support. Attendees can learn the latest safety and health tips, and get a feel for career paths from participating health professionals.
The event will feature activities for all ages, such as medical helicopter tours, a “touch a truck” experience with police and fire trucks, and a mobile library booth.
Dean of Nursing Melanie Ames Zamojski describes the events as “a great opportunity for the community to learn the latest information about safety and health care practices, and for our students to share what they’ve learned with the broader community.”
The expo is made possible thanks to the participation of various partners, including the Greenfield Health Department, Tapestry Health, LifeFlight medical helicopters, the New England Learning Center for Women in Transition (NELCWIT), Planned Parenthood of Holyoke, the Colrain and Greenfield libraries, Community 911, Medical Pediatric Nutrition, Greenfield Public Safety, The Nest Community Closet and the Dalton Fire Department.

GREENFIELD — The Greenfield Public Library will welcome local author Kai Carol Jud for a talk on her book “Life of Kai: A Memoir of Awakening” in the library’s Community Meeting Room on Wednesday, April 23, at 6 p.m.
Kai Carol Jud is a psychotherapist and tarot reader whose embodied spiritual path and study of shamanism have taken her through the ecstasies and challenges of life and death. Copies of her book will be available for sale.

GREENFIELD — Photographer Alix Kaplan’s exhibit “Home is a River” is on display in the Greenfield Public Library’s Conference Room throughout April.
Kaplan grew up an only child and learned early on that the environment offers a companionship to those who need it. They hold a degree in environmental studies from Tufts University and a handful of awards from film festivals for their work in animation. Kaplan now resides in Greenfield and works for the Connecticut River Conservancy. Their photographs are the culmination of artistic curiosity and environmental stewardship.
