GILL — When the treasurer and tax collector’s terms expire in the coming years, the two positions will become appointed roles, as voters gave their approval at the ballot box on Monday.

Residents were asked, both Monday and at the May 6 Annual Town Meeting, to consider changing the treasurer and tax collector from elected positions to appointed ones, with town officials saying the roles are becoming increasingly complex and that it is too risky to leave the roles up to what amounts to a popularity contest during an election. The measures passed 35-10.

Additionally, residents approved a third ballot question allowing the Selectboard to appoint two additional members to the Sewer Commission. The Selectboard serves simultaneously as the Sewer Commission and residents have worked with the board to come up with a way to increase representation of the Riverside neighborhood — where no Selectboard members live — as residents in the area face rising sewer rates, pump motor difficulties and the capital needs of the 40-year-old system. The ballot question to add two more members passed, 33-12.

There were no surprises in the uncontested races on the ballot, which featured incumbents running for every position. Just short of 4% of registered voters participated in the election, according to Town Clerk Doreen Stevens.

The full results are as follows:

■Selectboard/Sewer Commission, three-year term — Charles Garbiel III, 45 votes.
