It was a big day for the Frontier and Mohawk Trail cross country teams at the MIAA Division 3 state qualifying meet at Wrentham Development Center.

There were six heats during Saturday’s race – three boys heats and three girls heats — and the top seven teams in each heat qualified for the MIAA Division 3 Championship next week. The top 10 individual finishers in each heat who weren’t members of those top seven teams also qualified for the state meet as individuals.

Racing in the 3B boys heat, the Redhawks finished third as a team while in the 3C girls heat, the Warriors placed seventh to qualify for states. The Frontier girls took eighth in their 3B heat, but as the fastest eighth place team across the three races, the Hawks earned a wild card entry into next week’s state meet.

The Div. 3 state championship is scheduled for next Saturday, Nov. 16 at Fort Devens.

The Frontier boys were led by Evan Hedlund and Luke Howard. Hedlund placed third overall (15 minutes, 56.99 seconds) while Howard took sixth (16:19.30). Oliver Brown took 30th (17:33.50), Hengxi Yue earned 33rd (17:35.45) while Charles Dennis took 45th (17:58.82) to close out the scoring for the Redhawks.

For the Mohawk Trail girls, Virginia Krezmien earned a seventh place finish (19:49.91) while Anya Read came in 12th (20:16.92). Natalie Lanoue placed 36th (21:21.32), Ella Thompson came in 80th (23:29.99) while Georgia Gauthier placed 87th (23:47.39) to help the Warriors advance to the state championship as a team.

The Frontier girls used the wild card spot to qualify for states as an eighth place finisher in the 3C race. Sylvie DiBartolomeo placed sixth overall (19:32.69) to earn a spot as an individual while Liv Chrisensen (38th, 21:24.34), Perla Ordaz (56th, 22:24.23), Phoebe Radner (59th, 22:34.59) and Maia Christensen (61st, 22:41.36) closed out the scoring for the Redhawks.

Also in the 3C girls race, Pioneer’s Amelia Fowler-Shaw took 79th (23:29.66).
