Turners Falls High School held its Coaches vs. Cancer night last week during its boys varsity game against Franklin Tech, with the Thunder raising money to support alumni Jenna Putala’s battle with cancer.

Tuners was able to raise $4,700 for the cause, and Thunder athletic director Jen Luciano thanked the community for their support.

“It was so nice to see all of the sections of the bleachers full of supporters from both our school and the Tech school,” Luciano said. “We had Turners Falls softball alumni come from Boston and as far as North Carolina to support their former teammate. It was truly heartwarming and a testament to how wonderful this little community is when there is someone in need.

“Between the full stands, senior night, the pep band and the cheerleaders it felt great to see such strong school spirit and a love of community,” Luciano added. “I am always blown away by the spirit of Turners Falls.”

Berkshire Highlands Pentathlon

Registration is now open for the 12th Berkshire Highlands Pentathlon, which will be held March 29 at Berkshire East Resort in Charlemont.

Registration is open for all categories; Bravehearts, who do the entire course solo, family teams, and teams of three-to-five. Discounted entry fees for family teams and entrants under 19 year old. The coveted Braveheart trophies are made and  donated by Ashfield Stone.

The five events are a 4.5-mile trail run, 18-mile bicycle road ride, 2+ mile paddle, 2-mile adventure run and a climb up ski down leg.  Over 160 athletes participated last year.

There will be great food and beer, and raffle prizes will be awarded for winners in each category. Online registration is at BikeReg.com, or register the day of the event. Numerous volunteers are also needed. This year’s benefactor is the Good Neighbors Food Pantry. Discover how much fun this event is and help support a good cause!
