Bulletin Board: Sixty deer checked into Franklin County check stations over weekend

With Massachusetts Shotgun Deer Hunting Season heading into week 2, a total of 60 deer were checked into Franklin County stations over the weekend. 

Deerfield’s Austin Snape came in with largest buck, measuring 180 pounds with nine points.

Greenfield Elks Hoop Shoot

The Greenfield Elks Hoop Shoot is fast approaching once again.

The event is open to boys and girls ages 8-13 (as of April 1, 2025). It will be held at Franklin County’s YMCA in Greenfield this Saturday, Dec. 14.

Registration is at 9 a.m., and the contest will begin at 10 a.m. For more information, contact Mike Blanchard (mikeblanchard78@gmail.com).

Running

Sawmill River 10K

Registration for the annual Sawmill River 10K has begun.

The Sawmill Run is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025 in Montague Center. The road race will begin promptly at 10 a.m. near the Village Common on Main Street. Race Day registration will begin at 9 a.m. at the Montague Common Hall at 34 Main St. in Montague.

Divisions include Youth (17 yrs. & Under), Open (18-39 yrs.), Master (40-49 yrs.), Senior (50-59 yrs.), and Senior-Plus (60 yrs. & Up). Entry Fees are $30 (paid by noon Dec. 31) or $40 (thereafter). Hot and cold refreshments will be provided.
