GREENFIELD — The Communities That Care Coalition’s Racial Justice Workgroup will offer a screening and discussion of the documentary “I’m Not Racist … Am I?” on Monday from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Greenfield Community Television (GCTV).
Mesa Verde, Greenfield Community College and Greenfield Savings Bank are sponsors of the screening. The 90-minute movie will be followed by a discussion with the film’s producer André Robert Lee, director Catherine Wigginton Greene, Amy McMahan of Mesa Verde, and Keyedrya Jacobs, community engagement and programs associate with the Communities That Care Coalition.
Both the movie and the discussion will be broadcast and streamed at GCTV.com. The audience will be able to submit comments and questions through the chat function.
“I’m Not Racist … Am I?” is a feature documentary following a diverse group of teens through a yearlong exploration to get at the heart of racism. Through some tense and painful moments, viewers see how difficult conversations affect their relationships and ultimately challenge them to look within themselves. By the end of their time together, the teens develop deeper bonds, a stronger resolve and a broader definition of racism.
Jacobs said she hopes school staff members and administrators, as well as middle school- and high school-age youths and their families, attend and participate. The documentary can only be viewed through community screenings like this one.
“We hope that this community screening will open up more dialogue,” Jacobs said.
