Mr. Trump’s state of the COVID-19 speech March 11 was so disingenuous and frankly painful to watch. His presentation was totally without feeling and sincerity that he really felt the welfare of the American people was his top priority. It was as if he was reading a script under extreme duress. Yet he took all the credit for the steps being taken to protect the public as if they were all his own ideas.
Lest we not forget, early into the problem he talked as if it was nothing serious. In early March he tweeted “so if, you know, we have thousands or hundreds of thousands by, you, know, sitting around and even going to work, some of them go to work, but they get better.” He received a huge backlash from the medical community which had been adamant about not working with symptoms and possibly spreading the infection to co-workers who may be more vulnerable.
Mr. I-Never-Make-Mistakes Trump responded to the criticism during an interview “I never said people that (he can’t even refer to them as human by using the correct pronoun, who) are feeling sick should go to work. This is just more fake news and disinformation put out by the Democrats…”
It was only when the stock market was crashing that Mr. Trump agreed to listen to the experts and follow their recommendations in public. In private, he was only doing it to help his billionaire buddies because their companies stood to lose millions of revenue dollars from all the cancellations.
With Mr. Trump, it always has been and always will be about profit for the wealthy and the rest of us just fend for ourselves. One example, he recently released $381 million remaining heating assistance funds for this winter, except for $37 million he intends to divert to fight coronavirus. This amounts to 75,000 families being eliminated this year. Couldn’t those funds have come from the huge subsidies fossil fuel industry and agribusiness get which can better absorb a loss? Not on Mr. It’s-All-About-The-Deal Trump’s watch. He must not be reelected. He is not a peoples’ president, he is an oligarch.
Please, Trump supporters, reexamine the reasons for your loyalty to such a devious man.
