HAWLEY — Two people were transported to Baystate Franklin Medical Center with minor injuries following an accident on East Hawley Road on Friday.

At 5:23 p.m., dispatchers received a report of a Honda CRV on its side about 200 feet north of the elbow on East Hawley Road heading toward Charlemont, according to Fire Chief Greg Cox.

“They were going north, which is downhill, and came around the elbow … in the pouring rain,” Cox said. “They hit the breaks, slid and spun around, and ended up on their side in the embankment.”

Firefighters popped out a window and freed the two occupants of the SUV, which was facing uphill. Both sustained minor injuries.

One of the occupants was a 17-year-old girl; Cox did not have any information about the other occupant. The two patients were transported by Charlemont and Shelburne Falls ambulances to Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield.

Both Charlemont and Hawley fire departments responded. The SUV was towed.
