‘New Day’ chanting service today at 4:30 in Northfield

NORTHFIELD — Trinitarian Congregational Church will hold its first “New Day” casual chanting/worship service today from 4:30 to 5:15 p.m. Rev. Julie Olmsted, pastor of Trinitarian Congregational Church, and her husband, Jeff Olmsted, will lead the service. Jeff Olmsted is choir director of Haydenville Congregational Church. He has been conducting chants from the Christian as well as other faiths for many years. The service will also be held on the third Saturdays in July and August. All about Mr. Rogers, Sunday in Orange

ORANGE — Sunday’s service on June 19 at the Community Church of North Orange & Tully (CCNOT) will feature the work and teachings of one of America’s most famous fathers and father figures, Mr. Fred Rogers. Billed as an “End of School Celebration,” the Sunday service at 9 a.m. will be a multimedia presentation and include readings and songs by the Sunday School children. Following the celebration, there will be cake, juice and other snacks.

Art lecture by collage ‘fleurage’ artist: Sunday in Bernardston

BERNARDSTON — June 19 is the final chance to see the collaborative Art Show of 29 artists, “Visions of Peace.” There will be a slide lecture by collage “fleurage” artist Harry White of Glastonbury, Conn. (harrywhitecollage.com) The slide/lecture is at 2 p.m. and replaces the usual 11:30 a.m. service. Be sure to give yourself time to view all the art works before the lecture or during the week: Wednesday, Saturday or sunday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Episcopal Bishop to visit Ashfield congregation Sunday at 10 a.m.

ASHFIELD — The Rt. Rev. Douglas J. Fisher will preach and preside at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Main and South Street, on Sunday, June 19, at 10 a.m. Bishop Fisher visits all of the 55+ congregations in the Tpiscopal Diocese of Western massachusetts once every two years. The Bishop will be greeted by the Rev. Eliot Moss, vicar of St. John’s. Following the liturgy, the Bishop will visit with members at the coffee hour and then meet privately with the vestry — the leadership of the congregation — to discuss hopes, dreams and concerns.

Summer services begin in Halifax, Vt.

HALIFAX, Vt. — The Halifax Union Society commences its summer worship season this Sunday at 6 p.m. Services are scheduled for every Sunday evening through Sept. 4. The Rev. Dr. Marcia Dorey of Wilmington, Vt., is pastor of the Society and leads most services. Merrilyn Courses plays the antique Carpenter reed organ and leads the group in song. A Welcome Back potluck picnic, starting at 4:30 p.m. at the church, will precede this Sunday’s service.

The Halifax Union Society was founded in 1891 and this year celebrates its 125th anniversary. We will continue the theme begun last year of “Exploring the Feminine in the Bible.” The Society is nondenominational and is located in Halifax Center near the intersection of Stowe Mountain, Jacksonville Stage, Old County and Woodard Hill roads. ‘What Makes People Happy?’ June 26 in Ashfield

ASHFIELD — Amherst College Psychology professor Catherine Sanderson will present a talk for the general public titled, “What makes people happy?” on Sunday, June 26. Sponsored by St. John’s Church, the talk will be held at the Community Hall on Main Street at 1 p.m. Prof. Sanderson will describe what psychology researchers have discovered about human happiness and will take questions from the audience. This event is free and open to all. Light refreshments will be offered after the talk.

Sanderson is the Manwell Family Professor of Life Sciences (Psychology) at Amherst College. Professor Sanderson was named one of the country’s top 300 professors by the Princeton Review in 2012.
