Fall Foliage and History Walk: Saturday, Oct. 27, 1 to 4 p.m. Join Ted Watt, naturalist with the Hitchcock Center for the Environment in Amherst, for a hike along an abandoned, still-mostly-black-topped road that ultimately disappears under the waters of the Quabbin Reservoir. Walk about two miles on mostly level road from the gate to the old Dana Common, not reaching the reservoir itself. Observe trees and other aspects of nature along the way, then explore the history that led to the deserted town center upon arrival. Co-sponsored by the Hitchcock Center for the Environment and Greening Greenfield. Bring binoculars and wear comfortable hiking shoes. Heavy rain cancels. The walk is free, geared toward adults and children ages 9 and up. Limited to 15 participants. Register with Edie Heinemann by phone at 773-465-1646 or by email at ediesh82346@gmail.com.
