DEERFIELD — A 25-year-old Northampton man has been arrested on charges of drunken driving for the second time in Deerfield.

Colin A. Sohn was arraigned in Greenfield District Court Thursday on charges of operating under the influence of alcohol for a second offense, speeding and driving without a license in his possession.

According to a report by Deerfield police officer Brent Griffin, Griffin was running radar on Route 116 early Monday morning and stopped a vehicle for traveling 54 mph in a 40 mph zone around.

Upon approaching the vehicle, Griffin wrote he could immediately smell an odor of alcohol and the operator, identified as Sohn, said he did not have his license or registration with him. According to the report, Sohn had bloodshot, glossy eyes and slurred speech, but said he had not been drinking that night.

He failed a series of field sobriety tests and a portable breath test showed he had a blood alcohol content of 0.155 percent, according to the report. He was arrested and transported to the Sunderland police station for booking, as Deerfield’s breathalyzer was out of service.

Griffin wrote a breath test at the station showed a result of 0.146 percent blood alcohol content — nearly twice the legal limit — and found out Sohn had previously been arrested on drunken driving charges in Deerfield.

He was released on personal recognizance following his arraignment and ordered to abstain from alcohol and drugs with screens. He is due back in court June 9 for a status review.
