Mahar Regional School’s pursuit of a second consecutive Pioneer North girls soccer title took another step forward Thursday night.

Delaney Parker had her hands in all four Mahar goals, lifting the Senators to a 4-0 shutout of Frontier at the Woodward Complex in Orange.

“This was a big win against a very good Frontier team,” Mahar coach Chad Softic said. “The girls are really playing good soccer and they are playing vertical soccer which is putting a lot of pressure on other teams’ back four.”

Parker put Mahar (11-1 overall, 7-0 North) ahead 1-0 with an unassisted goal midway through the first half. Mollie Burke doubled the advantage four minutes later, and Emma Savoy made it 3-0 just before halftime. Parker assisted on both tallies, and the Senators were in control at intermission.

Parker notched her second goal of the night to put things away with 4:38 remaining in the second half, scoring off an assist from Sarah Graeff to account for the 4-0 final.

“Delaney was great again tonight,” lauded Softic. “Tori (Speth) controlled the middle of the field and I can’t say enough about our back four (Lani DeDiego, Abby Bonk, Jazmyn Vautour, Jeanne Grutchfield) and Marie Nottleson.”

Nottleson made one save to pick up the shutout, while Siomara Green totaled nine saves to pace Frontier (7-4, 4-3).

“Our most important player was Natalie Belloli who did a super job man-marking Natalie Denkiewicz, who is such a threat all over the field,” Softic said of Frontier’s top scorer.

Mahar has another huge Pioneer North contest Saturday afternoon. The Senators travel to play second-place Gateway (7-2, 5-1) in Huntington at 1 p.m.

Ware 4, Pioneer 0 — Caitlin Hess scored two goals, and host Ware tallied three times in a rain-shortened second half to pick up a 4-0 victory over Pioneer in a Pioneer South girls soccer game Thursday in Ware.

The Indians (10-0-1, 6-0-0) led just 1-0 at halftime, as the two teams played 30 minute halves due to the rainy conditions.

Maraide McClure and Olivia Vadnais also tallied for Ware, which held a 24-1 edge in shots.

Pioneer (2-5-2, 1-4-1) received 17 saves from goalkeeper Leah Fuess. The Panthers host Frontier in an independent game today.
