NORTHFIELD — The new Town Governance Study Committee expects to have its final two members appointed by its fourth meeting, which will probably be at the end of August, according to Chairwoman Tammy Pelletier.

“I’m not a horribly impatient person,” Pelletier said. “I think it’s better to progress slowly and do things the right way.”

She noted that the previous Town Governance Study Committee, which adjourned in 2013, didn’t fill its ranks until its sixth meeting.

The new Town Governance Study Committee held its second meeting on Monday (July 23), and will probably conduct interviews for its final two positions at its third meeting on Aug. 6, Pelletier said.

The new committee has a loosely defined purpose of assessing the workings of Northfield’s municipal government. The committee members haven’t determined among themselves what specifically their focus will be, Pelletier said.

She hopes that a meeting with members of the Selectboard, and perhaps former members of the previous Town Governance Study Committee, will help the committee members to clarify what parts of Northfield’s government need examining.

“We’re trying to determine what our mission is,” Pelletier said.
