RAYNHAM — Raynham police are investigating reports that Ku Klux Klan newspapers were delivered to 10 houses in the town Monday morning, officials said Thursday. The houses, all on Sherwood Lane in Raynham, received copies of The Crusader, the KKK’s official newspaper, and were apparently chosen at random, police said.
“The distributing of this kind of literature is unsettling for members of our community, and we encourage anyone who has been affected or has questions to reach out to us,” Police Chief James Donovan said in a statement. “A preliminary investigation indicates that these houses were randomly selected and not targeted. We do not believe there is any threat to the community. Nevertheless, we share the concern of our community members, and we condemn this kind of speech and the hateful ideology behind it.”
Raynham police said similar incidents have been reported in Attleborough, Belchertown, Milford and in multiple Maine communities, and that they have consulted Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn’s Office, the Anti-Defamation League and the State Police Fusion Center.
