SPRINGFIELD — During a down season for the Greenfield girls soccer team, there was a scoring milestone watch gaining momentum throughout the year.

As the games progressed, senior forward Tayler Bergeron inched closer and closer to 100 career points for the Green Wave. First, she needed three points. After another game, she needed two points. Then, came a trip to Springfield with one point remaining.

Her teammates were more than ready. Multiple 100-points signs sat idly on the team’s bench, ready for action as play began in the first half. The moment finally happened, as the senior entered the record books with a second half goal against Springfield Central on the turf at Berte Field on Tuesday afternoon.

The tally gave her 71 for career to go along with 29 assists. The goal came on a breakaway, with Bergeron splitting two defenders before firing the shot next to the left post. Bergeron’s teammates swarmed her before a timeout on the field. Bergeron got better and better throughout her career with the Green Wave.

“I just gained confidence,” Bergeron said. “My teammates, they help. I just think of it as my last season, I might as well make the best out of it no matter if we win or lose.”

The legacy of the Bergeron name in Greenfield is something that she thinks about often. In the winter, she has a chance to score 1,000 points for the basketball team. Her sister, Amber Bergeron, scored her 1,000th point in 2024. The duo would be the first sisters on the banner together.

“I feel proud,” Bergeron said.

Elderina Cecunjanin reached 100 points for Greenfield in 2025. Before that, Emma Savoy reached the milestone in 2021. Bergeron becomes the third 100-point scorer for Greenfield girls soccer.

Greenfield coach Ben Johnson has been there since the beginning with Bergeron. There was some early trepidation for Bergeron about getting onto the soccer field at the beginning. The timid nature of Bergeron quickly faded away, and she blossomed into an elite scorer for the Green Wave.

“It’s been quite the journey for her,” Johnson said of Bergeron. “I’ve seen the confidence grow, and the aggression, and the positive leadership. Not just for scoring but assists too.”

Greenfield (1-15) lost to the Golden Eagles, 6-2. It’s been a long season for the Green Wave, but the milestone created a bonding moment for the team.

“Always a plus,” Johnson said. “You try to pick out the little moments to build on. This is a big one for her. Definitely something she has dedicated her time to.”

Still seeking the milestone in the first half, a hand ball on the Golden Eagles awarded the Green Wave a penalty shot. Bergeron lined up for the penalty kick. The bench waited with heavy anticipation. Bergeron’s shot glanced off the hands of Central’s keeper, onto the end line and out of the goal.

After chasing down the keeper, Bergeron watched as the ball got cleared.

“I overthought it,” Bergeron said. “I was thinking about where I should kick it. I kicked it exactly where I didn’t want to kick it.”

For good measure, Bergeron added a second goal with six minutes, 31 seconds left in the game. The goal put her at 101 career points for the Green Wave .
