After celebrating his 100th birthday, George Bush of Turners Falls continued his historic legacy as a devoted season ticket holder of the New England Patriots with a celebrity meet and greet at Gillette Stadium on Oct. 11.
Bush attended the Patriots’ victory over the Las Vegas Raiders and enjoyed an opportunity to get on the field and meet with Patriots owner Robert Kraft and his son, Jonathan Kraft.
“It was very nice,” Bush said. “Being down on the field and the sidelines… Jonathan Kraft came over, and who was with him but his father. They both came over. “
The celebrity contact didn’t stop there for the Navy veteran. Bush got to witness all the players go through their pregame warm-up and even met middle linebacker Robert Spillane, who thanked Bush for his fandom. Bush also got to watch Drake Maye go through his pregame routine.
“The quarterback and the receivers all come on and field and do their drills, I was on the sideline for that” Bush said. “When those drills were over, the Patriots linemen came out.”
He even shared a quick pregame handshake with Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel. Bush’s visit to the sideline happened to coincide with another historic day, as the 2001 Super Bowl XXXVI Patriots returned for an anniversary celebration.
“They were on the same sideline,” Bush said of the team that upset the St. Louis Rams.
With close family friend Dave Bernard behind the wheel, Bush makes the trip to Foxborough for every game. The weather and the kickoff times never mattered for Bush, who has not missed a game in 55 years.
