Katherine J. Batsis

Greenfield, MA – Katherine J. (Lamonakis) Batsis, age 82, passed away Friday June 5, 2026, at Charlene Manor Extended Care Facility. She was born in Concord, MA on January 20, 1944, the daughter of John G. and Mary (Kakes) Lamonakis. Katherine attended local schools in Concord and was a graduate of Concord-Carlisle High School, Class of 1962. She continued her education at Lesley College in Cambridge, MA, receiving her bachelor’s degree in education, graduating in 1966. In 1967 she graduated from Simmons College in Boston, MA, receiving her master’s degree in library and information sciences.

Katherine authored two books, a memoir of her husband and their life together titled “Dr. Andrew Batsis, Husband! Dentist! Kiwanian! Santa Claus?” and a poetry book titled “Grateful and blessed, A Book of Poetry.”

Three years after Andrew’s passing on April 20, 2005, Kathi moved to Greenfield to live near her brother and his family. She was very active in the Amherst MA International Folk Dance Program, joining in 2009. She was also active in contra dancing at The Grange in Greenfield biweekly. She joined Song Squal in 2008 and soon after joined the Franklin County Community Chorus.

Among her survivors, Kathi leaves her sister in law Sharon Lamonakis; brother, Emmanuel Lamonakis (Yvette) of Clearwater, FL; a niece Sonya Lamonakis; four nephews, Greg Lamonakis (Tina), Christopher Lamonakis (Jennifer), John Lamonakis and Ted Lamonakis (Sophia); Godson, Mark Apostolou, Jr., of NJ, and two Goddaughters, Katherine Fontana of Virginia and Elena DeGeorge of NJ.

Besides her husband, Andrew Batsis, Kathi was predeceased by two brothers, George and Stephen Lamonakis.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday 6/16 from 11-1pm at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 1 Kostanski Square, Turners Falls. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
