Brody Hicks got the save for the Franklin Tech baseball team in a 2-1 Suburban East win over Greenfield in Turners Falls on Monday afternoon.

Hicks entered the game in the top of the seventh and started the inning with consecutive walks. Malik Moore then bunted to move the runners to second and third for Greenfield. Hicks buckled down and got a strikeout and a fly out to end the game for the Eagles (10-5, 6-5).

George Gutierrez Jr. had two RBIs for Franklin Tech. In the bottom of the sixth, Hunter Donahue started the inning with a double before a bunt single by Nick Prasol. Gutierrez pulled off a successful safety squeeze to get Donahue home from third. It was Donahue’s second run scored on the afternoon.

Bodie Burke pitched seven strong innings for the Green Wave, striking out 10 hitters and only allowing three hits. Urijah Jenness had the lone RBI for Greenfield.

Caleb Begos pitched five innings for the Eagles, with Joey Bobala pitching an inning of relief. Begos gave up a run, four hits with a walk and a strikeout.

Hopkins Academy 23, Athol 0 (five innings) — Alex Lavigne and Maddox Greene had hits for the Bears (2-13, 1-11) in a home loss to the Golden Hawks. Hopkins Academy amassed 13 hits in the game.

Turners Falls 5, Mahar Regional 0 — Julian Kaiser struck out 11 hitters in the win for the Thunder over the Senators in an independent match up in Orange. Kainen Stevens, Porter Dubow, Kaiser and Ethan Eichorn each had a hit and an RBI to lead the offense. Clayde Thompson and Kayden McGivern had hits for the Senators.

Girls tennis

Mount Greylock 4, Greenfield 1 — Karinna Kostov won an epic match at No. 2 singles to provide the lone individual win for the Green Wave (4-4) in the loss to the Mounties on Davis Street. Kostov outlasted Charlotte Towler 6-7 (3-7), 6-4 and 10-8.

Frontier 4, Turners Falls 1 — The Redhawks handled the Thunder in an independent matchup in South Deerfield. Kayla Fagan and Ella Sibley won at No. 2 and No. 3 singles for the Redhawks (12-3). At No. 1 doubles, Brooke Charest and Hailey Fernandez defeated Jesi Berry and Destiny Rodriguez 6-0, 6-0. Esther Ehle and Jimin Ahn won at No. 2 doubles. Olivia Wolbach won at No. 1 singles for the Thunder (3-5) over Thanushi Ratnatunge 6-1, 6-0.

Boys tennis

Frontier 5, Turners Falls 0 — The Redhawks handed the Thunder their first loss of the season in an independent matchup in Montague. Casey Bestler beat Noah Kolodziej 4-6, 6-2 (10-6) at No. 1 singles. Xavier Fripp and Noah Nichols won at No. 2 and No. 3 singles for Frontier. Liam Wells and Henry Pleasant won at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2 doubles, Anthony Leonardi and Leo Reiber brought home a win at No. 2 doubles.

Softball

Westfield 16, Greenfield 2 (six innings) — The Green Wave lost to the Bombers on the road in an independent contest. Olivia Lemay (RBI) and Sophia Rotkiewicz both had two hits for Greenfield (6-10). Sammi Suhl added an RBI for the Green Wave. In the circle, Lemay gave up 13 hits with eight strikeouts.

Frontier 10, South Hadley 3 — Riley Tine had two hits with three RBIs for the Redhawks in a road win over the Tigers. Tine also cut down three runners from behind the plate to boost the defensive effort. Lexi Hawkins added two hits with two RBI for Frontier. Hawkins got the win in the circle, pitching five innings with seven strikeouts. Raine Wonsey returned from injury, pitching two scoreless innings with four strikeouts.

Franklin Tech 11, Hopkins Academy 6 — The Eagles jumped ahead early in the road win over the Golden Hawks in Hadley. Franklin Tech scored five runs in the first inning of the Franklin East contest. Sandra Johnson had three hits with an RBI, while Lyla Mickiewicz added two hits with three RBIs. Emma Petersen chipped in with two hits with two RBIs. Brayleigh Burgh pitched a complete game, giving up five hits with a strikeout.

Commerce 6, Mahar 4 — Lexi Ares had 15 strikeouts, but the Senators lost to the Raiders in Springfield in a Tri County matchup. Mackenzie Matthews had two hits with two RBI for the Senators (8-6, 8-2 Tri County).

Minnechaug 8, Turners Falls 7 — The Falcons scored seven times in the bottom of the seventh to complete the comeback and beat the Thunder in a Franklin East contest in Wilbraham. Minnechaug scored the game-winning run on a walk with the bases loaded. Madisyn Dietz had two hits and two runs scored for Turners Falls (6-9, 5-5 Franklin East)

Hoosac Valley 12, Mohawk 0 (five innings) — The undefeated Hurricanes sent the Warriors home from the Berkshires with a loss in an independent matchup.

Girls track & field

Mohawk 96.5, Mahar 46.5 — Zephyr Jetzon won three events for Mohawk in the Warriors’ win over the Senators at the Woodward Complex. Jetzon placed first in the 100-meter (13.73), the 200-meter (28.34) and the long jump (16-1.75). Morgan Raffa won the discus (78-4) and the javelin (102-6) for Mohawk.

For Mahar, Stellina Moore placed first in the 100-hurdles (18.10), the high jump (five feet) and the pole vault (9-6).

Boys track & field

Mohawk 102, Mahar Regional 43 — The Warriors were too much for the Senators at the Woodward Complex. Tanner Biagini was a force in sprinting events for Mohawk, winning the 100-meter (11.52) and the 200-meter (23.60). Biagini also won (17-11.75) the long jump. Peter Healy won the mile (4:57.91) and the 2-mile (10:46.64) for the Warriors. In the the discus and the javelin, Cole Raffa placed first for Mohawk.

Max Kimball won (5-5) in the high jump for Mahar, with Coltin Fausett adding another win (20.85) in the 110-hurdles.

Baseball

Frontier 1, Hopkins Academy 0 — The Redhawks took down the Golden Hawks in Suburban East play on Sunday. After Monday’s games, Frontier (13-3, 9-2) and Hopkins (15-2, 10-2) are at the top of the Suburban East standings. The Redhawks travel to Northfield on Wednesday to play Pioneer at 4 p.m. With a win, they would clinch a share of the league championship.

Softball

Westfield 18, Turners Falls 6 (five innings) The Thunder couldn’t stay with the Bombers in a road loss in independent play on Sunday. Abigail Moffatt had a three-run homer for Turners Falls (6-8). It was the first varsity homer of Moffatt’s career.

Track & Field

The Frontier Regional girls track & field team won the Minnechaug Invitational in Wilbraham on Sunday. The Redhawks edged the hosts for first place, finishing with 131.5 points to Minnechaug’s 129. Greenfield placed 10th (26 points) and Pioneer finished in14th (12 points).

Maia Christensen (five feet) and Louise Flagollet (4-10) were first and second, respectively, in the high jump for Frontier. Phoebe Radner took fourth (2:38.25) in the 800-meter Harper Hake of Pioneer placed fifth (2:38.80, PR) in the same event. Hake added a second-place finish (5:49.60) in the mile.

Liv Christensen and Paisley Severance were second (13:23.67) and third (14:12.25) respectively, in the 2-mile for Frontier.

Kyra Tamsin of Greenfield placed first (1:08.79) in the 400-hurdles. Tamsin also placed second in the 100-hurdles (17.48) for the Green Wave. Nina St. Clair added a second place (35 feet) finish in the triple jump for Greenfield.

Bailey Cusson won the shot put (26-7) for Frontier. Ashlie Galenski added a second place (82-1) finish in the discus. Elsa Brown placed first in the pole vault (nine feet).

The Greenfield boys placed fourth (60 points), Frontier placed fifth (57 points) and Pioneer came tied for 12th (eight points). Kymel Ramsey was second in the 100-meter for the Green Wave. Luke Howard was a winner in the mile (4:25.01) for Frontier. Teammate Adrien Pazmandy grabbed a first place (13 feet) finish in the pole vault.

Mason Youmell took first (15.76) in the 110-hurdles and the 400-hurdles (56.91) for Greenfield. Carter Berthaiume placed second (six feet) in the high jump for the Panthers.
