GREENFIELD — A Greenfield man was sentenced to 11 to 13 years in state prison for luring two minors into the woods where he encouraged them to have intercourse with each other and later raped one of them.
Angel E. Santiago, 33, of Greenfield, appeared in Franklin County Superior Court on Thursday to change his plea on 16 charges and be sentenced by Judge Jeremy Bucci.
Santiago pleaded guilty to four counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14, four counts of posing or exhibiting a child in a sexual act, four counts of enticing a child under 16, and single counts of aggravated rape of child with a 10-year age difference, furnishing marijuana to a person under 21 years old, open and gross lewdness, and intimidation of a witness/juror/police/court official.
He will be on probation for five years following his release from state prison. Santiago was represented in court by attorney Dan Solomon.
In July 2025, Santiago invited two 12-year-olds — a boy and a girl living in Greenfield — to shoot BB guns in the woods near the Green River Swimming and Recreation Area. Once there, he started talking in a sexual manner and convinced the girl to reveal her private parts. He also touched her breasts and asked the boy if he wanted to do the same, but the boy declined, according to Assistant District Attorney Stephanie Jimenez.
Santiago also asked the boy to show his genitalia, but he declined that as well. Santiago then exposed himself and asked the children to return to the same spot the next day to have sex with each other.
According to Jimenez, the boy “thought better” of the situation the following day and did not go with Santiago. The girl, however, joined Santiago to smoke marijuana. Santiago gave the girl marijuana and eventually kissed her, then had intercourse with her after convincing her to take off her clothes.
The girl eventually confided in a friend and her own mother, who brought her daughter to Baystate Franklin Medical Center.
