GREENFIELD โ With Independence Day just three months away, the Greenfield Recreation Department is teeing up its efforts to raise money for the annual fireworks display with a “Putt for a Purpose” fundraiser.
On Friday, April 3, and Saturday, April 4, the municipal offices at 20 Sanderson St. will be transformed into a mini-golf course as the first of several fundraisers to cover the cost of the annual fireworks show at Beacon Field.
“We’re trying to raise as much as we can,” Recreation Director Christy Moore said.
Moore said the fireworks display typically costs about $20,000, and the expense is covered entirely through fundraising. However, this year may be more expensive due to tariffs. According to the National Fireworks Association, tariffs on China and other fireworks exporters have prompted prices to soar by 30%.
“The [Recreation] Commission is still on board with having the same type of show that we’ve had in the past,” Moore said. “It may change in the future โ obviously, we never know … but we’re still trying to raise $20,000 on top of trying to operate.”
With tariffs making fireworks more expensive, as well as budget challenges, Moore said fundraising events and private donations are more important than ever to keep the fireworks show and other programming going. The Recreation Department recently received a $12,000 donation from local attorney and business owner Isaac Mass, the largest single donation the department has ever gotten for the fireworks.

“As our community is preparing to celebrate its 250th anniversary, I would like to take a moment to recognize an extraordinary act of local generosity. The Law Office of Isaac J. Mass has made a remarkable $12,000 contribution to the Friends of Greenfield Recreation in support of this yearโs annual fireworks celebration,” Moore said. “His generous contribution plays a critical role in ensuring that this longstanding tradition remains accessible, vibrant and memorable for all who attend. Community events like our annual fireworks display are made possible through the support of dedicated local business and partners. This contribution not only strengthens the event itself but also reflects a deep commitment to the spirit and unity of our community during this historic milestone year.
“We are incredibly grateful for this remarkable gift; as we celebrate 250 years of our countryโs history, this generous support helps ensure that our fireworks tradition continues to bring people together in a meaningful and lasting way,” Moore continued. “On behalf of Greenfield Recreation, I extend my sincere thanks to Isaac Mass for his generosity and community leadership.”
Moore said other community members and local businesses can support the fireworks and other programming by contacting the Recreation Department to make a direct donation, or by supporting a fundraiser like “Putt for a Purpose.”
The mini-golf course will have about 20 holes sponsored by different local businesses. The holes will have different themes, with some being decorated by the businesses themselves, and others being decorated on their behalf by the Recreation Department.
โThis event is a fun and unique way to bring people together while supporting a tradition that means so much to our community,โ Moore said. โEvery putt helps us get closer to lighting up the sky.โ
The mini-golf course will open at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, with last entry onto the course at 8:45 p.m. It will open at 10 a.m. on Saturday, with last entry at 3:45 p.m. The costs is $5 per round for each person, payable at the door. Children ages 3 and under can play for free.
