ORANGE โ The Center for Human Development (CHD) has a new home at the former TD Bank at 30 East Main St.
The Springfield-based nonprofit human services organization, with numerous locations across western and central Massachusetts and Connecticut, opened to clients at the new Orange location on March 17, having operated out of the Orange Innovation Center for years until those in charge of CHD found a place to call their own.
“We do a lot of in-person care,” said Northern Region Senior Program Director Shannon Hicks. “Our clients were really, really looking forward to having a new space that was open.”

The two-floor clinic has about 25 staff members and offers individual and group counseling, marriage and family therapy, psychiatry services, recovery coaching and case management, as well as medication-supported recovery for clients facing addiction.
“We began leasing the property on Jan. 1 and worked with the town to get our permits to do our construction,” Hicks recounted. “We had a few things to do โ you know, the plumbing, the heating, and then just some minor repairs here and there. The building sat vacant for a long time. It was at least a few years.
“And it was a great space for us to move into because Heywood Hospital had a satellite [office] here. So all of our clinical spaces have been outfitted for primary care,” she added. “Our goal is to expand and be able to provide some primary care services here.”
Open access hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to noon, when anyone can walk in to be evaluated or assessed. An open house is scheduled for April 16.
The clinic accepts all types of insurance and has a sliding fee scale for the uninsured. CHD’s central registration desk can be reached at 1-844-CHD-HELP for details about services.
The nearby drive-up TD Bank ATM is still functional.
