A year removed from another league championship and a second place finish at the Western Mass. Division 2 championships, the Frontier Regional girls track & field team comes into the spring season with experience along with some new talent.

All signs point to continued dominance for Frontier.

“We are working hard to build a strong team with a solid base of returning girls,” Frontier coach Bob Smith said. “And many very talented newcomers.”

One of the newcomers is junior Louise Flagollet, who transferred from Pioneer Valley Regional. Flagollet specializes in the high jump and has some plans for the event.

“I really want to get up to five-four again in the high jump,” Flagollet said. “I think I can. But that’s a goal. I want to be able to that a little more consistently.”

She will also run the 400-meter and participate in relays, among other events. Flagollet is still getting to know her new teammates.

“It’s really nice getting to know people’s strong suits and what they are good at,” Flagollet said. “But I recognize a lot of people from indoor and I think we could have a pretty strong team.”

Senior Madelyn Antes specialized in the 400-hurdles last season. Maia Christensen is set to attack the high jump. Phoebe Radner is coming off an impressive indoor season in sprinting events.

The Frontier boys track and field team has talent up and down the roster. The team also has a healthy Luke Howard for distance events.

“We have all of our throwers back,” Frontier coach Walt Flynn said. “He finally (Howard) healed. He was in recovery for most of last season…that’s an improvement for us over last year.”

Ezra Rich and John Reloj will lead the throwers for Frontier. Another important piece for the Redhawks is distance runner Evan Hedlund. After taking the winter to train on his own, Hedlund has a focus on the mile and the 2-mile. He has a goal of completing the 2-mile in under nine minutes.

“Only time will tell,” Hedlund and said. “I am just looking for a consistent season. I always peak at states.”

Adrien Pazmandy, Kai Fripp and Howard will attack the 4×800 relay with Hedlund this season. Pazmandy had an excellent indoor season in sprinting events for Frontier.
