The evolution of the Providence Christian Academy wrestling squad showed itself after some major achievements at the New England Wrestling Championships on March 13 and 14 at the Game on Sports Complex in Fitchburg.
The Wolverines started as club team that met once a week under coach Daniel Ghitman. At the New England Championships several Wolverines earned a medal, marking the growth of the program.
Nathaniel Ghitman and Mark Matevosian each advanced to the finals in their respective weight classes, earning second-place finishes. Maximus Placinta battled through seven matches to secure a sixth-place finish. Sunny Henderson and Mike Taran gained valuable experience at the event.
Levon Matevosian missed the event with an injury.
College
Franklin Tech graduate Hannah Gilbert earned her first collegiate win for the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts on March 15.
Pitching in relief, Gilbert pitch two and two-thirds innings and did not give up a run as the Trailblazers (1-7) pulled away. Gilbert walked two and struck out two hitters while giving up one hit.
In four appearances, Gilbert holds a 1.19 ERA with 12 strikeouts.
MacKenzie Paulin registered her first collegiate win for the Merrimack softball team on March 21 in North Andover. Paulin pitched a complete game, giving up two hits for the Warriors (4-14).
At Saint Michael’s College, Madi Liimatainen is hitting .281 through 13 games for the Purple Knights (2-11). Liimatainen has nine hits with four doubles along with nine RBI.

Here are the results for week ending on March 20. In Sunday Scotch Doubles, Mike Elie and Nancy Purington rolled a 104 in high single. John Terault and Mike Forgue carded a 273 in high single.
In Monday’s Mixed League, Missy Finn scored a 93 in high single and a 264 in high triple. Ed Lairee rolled a 114 in high single while Kyle Leger carded a 294 in high triple.
In Tuesday’s League, K.C. Mattson rolled a 95 in high single and a 264 in high triple. In Wednesday’s Mixed League, Liz Sears carded a 111 in high single while Karen Herzog scored a 285 in high triple. Erich Price rolled a 121 in high single while Paul Hollings scored a 323 in high triple.
In Thursday’s Mixed League Colleen Barrows carded a 112 in high single and a 289 in high triple. Matt Gilbert scored a 129 in high single and a 347 in high triple.
