The Greenfield seventh and eighth grade boys Suburban basketball team finished its season undefeated after a 75-55 win over Turners Falls in the championship game on March 7 in Belchertown.
The Green Wave finished their season 18-0. Wes Darling led the offensive effort with 20 points on 10-for-15 from the floor. Darling cleaned the glass with 12 rebounds for Greenfield. Casey Burke (12 points), Jonathan Bones (15 points) Mahir Patel (10 points) all reached double-figures for the Green Wave. Xaviey Reynolds led Greenfield with four assists.
Phillip Brodeur added eight rebounds.
Greenfield 46, Hampshire 37 (OT) — The Greenfield fifth and sixth grade Suburban team needed overtime but pulled away to secure a victory in the championship on March 7 in Belchertown. Lobsang Jamyang had a monster game for the Green Wave, dropping 26 points on 12-for-12 from the floor. Greenfield concluded its season at 16-2.
Football
The National Football Foundation Western Massachusetts Chapter (NFFWMC) released All-Stars for the Western Mass. on Wednesday. Representatives from Franklin County included: Angel Politis, Greenfield; Dillon Laffond, Greenfield; Nicholas LeBlanc, Athol; Wyatt Whitman, Franklin Tech; Garrett Dredge, Frontier.
Members of the 42-player team were selected with input from coaches all over Western Mass. Selections are invited to attend the NFFWMC Banquet at Twin Hills Country Club in Longmeadow on April 12 at 2 p.m.
Berkshire Highlands Pentathlon
The 13th Berkshire Highlands Pentathlon will be held Saturday, March 28, at Berkshire East Mountain Resort in Charlemont. Registration is now open for all categories; Bravehearts, who do the entire course solo, family teams, and teams of 2-5. Discounted entry fees for family teams and entrants under 19-years old.
The five events are a 4.5-mile trail run, 18-mile road cycle ride, 2+ mile paddle, 2-mile adventure run and a climb up, ski down leg. Online discounted registration is at BikeReg.com. The event is in need of volunteers. This year’s benefactor is the Good Neighbors Food Pantry.
