Leyden, MA – Katharine Kemble-Lund of Leyden MA passed away due to multiple health conditions on January 21st at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, MA.
Known to most as “Katie”, she was known for her sharp intelligence, strong will, and was a friend and confidant to many.
Katie loved art and music, expressing her creativity through drawing, photography and singing. She played softball from a very young age and continued to play throughout high school. Known for her love of animals, Katie was an avid horse rider, cat rescuer, and found much solace in both their presence and caring for them.
Katie attended Pearl Rhodes elementary, Greenfield Center School, Northfield Mount Hermon, and Four Rivers High School, before receiving her GED from Holyoke Community College and attending classes at GGC.
Katie struggled with Substance Use Disorder and addiction for a major portion of her life. She was involved with both sides of the community (substance use/recovery) and was known as an advocate for many with similar struggles in Franklin County. She passed away safe and warm in the hospital with her brother and aunt by her side.
Katie’s family is deeply grateful to all of the healthcare providers who supported and encouraged her over the years. She was preceded in death by her mother Dr. Sarah Kemble, father Jerry Lund, and is survived by her brother Jeremy Kemble-Lund, grandmother Joan Kemble and multiple aunts, uncles, and cousins from both Lund and Kemble families.
There were several healthcare organizations in Franklin County that supported Katie. Among them are Tapestry, Community Health Center of Franklin County, Bridge Primary, and Behavioral Health Network. If you wish to honor Katie, please donate to any of these organizations.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
