The Mohawk Trail Regional girls basketball team stayed unbeaten after a 32-27 road win over Franklin Tech in a Franklin South contest on Monday night.
The Warriors (3-0, 1-0 Franklin South) pulled away in the final frame. Mohawk trailed by seven in the third quarter.
“We felt like even when we were down points, we were winning the game,” Mohawk coach Steve Bzomowski said. “We were missing free throws. We were throwing the ball away. But we had confidence. We felt that we could push them into turnovers and get the shots we wanted.”
After a Brayleigh Burgh to Ariel Peters set up in the paint, the Eagles (1-3, 0-1 Franklin South) led 25-24 midway through the fourth quarter. That’s when Zephyr Jetzon got aggressive and took it to the rim. The sophomore finished the play through contact to give Mohawk the lead.
“We’ve lost to this team so many times,” Jetzon said. “Last year for the first time, we beat them. That was really exciting for us. We knew we had to come back with that energy today.”
After Jetzon’s take, Emmalee Inman snared a rebound and hesitated for a moment. Inman saw an opening and took it for the Warriors. Inman went coast-to-coast for a bucket at the rim to give the Warriors a 28-25 lead.
“Normally when I get a rebound there’s not an opening,” Inman said. “I saw the opening and I just took it. “
The icy Natalie Lanoue would make a pair of free throws to extend the lead to five points with two minutes, 30 seconds left in the game. Lanoue led the Warriors with 10 points. Sadie Wilcox’s bucket off glass put the game out of reach for Mohawk.
Peters scored eight points for the Eagles. Burgh added six points, going 4-for-4 from the free throw line.
“We made some nice adjustments at halftime,” Franklin Tech coach Joe Gamache said. “We came out and executed those adjustments. When Mohawk counterpunched, kids started to scramble a little bit and panic. Instead of continuing to execute the gameplan.”

Abigail Dobias added five points with a 3-pointer for the Eagles.
