The Frontier Suburban girls squads opened their regular seasons with a pair of victories over Agawam at Goodnow Gymnasium on Sunday night.
The 5th and 6th grade team downed the Brownies, 35-3. Grace Barshefsky netted a game-high 10 points in the victory. Heidi Benson and Faith Stanisewski scored eight and six points, respectively, for Frontier.
The 7th and 8th team beat the Brownies, 51-18. Abby Cendrowski led all scorers with 16 points, while Danica Kopcza added 13 points for Frontier.
Boys basketball
Greenfield 47, Palmer 28 โ The Green Wave 5th and 6th grade Suburban squad went on the road and defeated the Panthers on Saturday.
Lobsang Jamyang dropped 17 points for Greenfield. Toby Campbell was also in double-figures for Greenfield with 12 points. Grabiel Ortiz led the defense and added six points. Anthony Ruggeri chipped in with five points.
Greenfield 73, Palmer 32 โ Jonathan Bones led the 7th and 8th grade Suburban team with 20 points in the comfortable road win over the Panthers. Casey Burke (17 points), Wes Darling (11 points) and Mahir Patel (10 points) were all in double-figures for Greenfield.
Both teams are undefeated prior to the Holiday Break. Greenfield hosts Southwick on Jan. 3 (12:15, 1:30) and Turners Falls on Jan. 4 (6:00, 7:30). All games are at Greenfield High School.
Greenfield Elks Pitch League
On the final night played at the Greenfield Elks on Dec. 17, Luigi Pederzini finished in first place with 34 points. Roxanne Goulet was second with 32 points. Mike Koncal placed third with 31 points.
