Days five and six of of the Massachusetts Shotgun Deer Hunting brought several sizable hunts throughout Franklin County on Friday and Saturday.

In frigid conditions, Cameron Valez of Turners Falls checked a 154 pound, eight-point buck at Bitzer Hatchery on Friday. John Herron of Shelburne checked a 173 pound, 11-point buck at Gould’s Sugarhouse on Friday.

Joseph Lesenski of Whately checked a 155 pound, 10-point buck on Saturday at Sunderland Hatchery. Saturday saw Dylan Fisher of Northfield check a 178 pound, six-point buck at Bitzer Hatchery. David Walker checked in two hunts at Bitzer on the same day. Walker hunted a 123 pound, eight-pointer and a 147 pound, eight-point buck.

At Gould’s Sugarhouse, Tucker Hicks of Turners Falls had two sizable checks on Saturday. Hicks came out of the woods with a 157-pounder (eight points) and a 171-pounder (10 points).

In some late arriving results from Sunderland Hatchery from Thursday, Donald Wilda of Hadley checked a 200-pound, eight-point buck. Franklin County resident Brian Harris of Sunderland checked a 190-pound, five-point buck on Thursday.

Results are through Saturday at 5 p.m.

Here are the results for the week ending on Dec. 5. In Sunday Scotch Doubles, Nick Brown and Robby Wood rolled a 121 in high single and a 291 in high triple.

In Monday Mixed league action, Jackie Howe scored a 98 in high single while Missy Finn rolled a 262 in high triple. Kyle Leger carded a 132 in high single while Stu Kingsley rolled a 338 in high triple.

Tuesday’s action was snowed out.

Wednesday’s Mixed league saw Samantha Roberts roll a 101 in high single with Cherie Semanie rolling a 278. Erich Price rolled a 115 in high single and a 318 in high triple.

In Thursday’s Mixed league, Colleen Barrows rolled a 122 in high single and a 289 in high triple. In the men’s High Single, Cam Greene scored a 135. In High Triple, Cam Greene carded a 353.

Greenfield Elks Pitch League

Here are the leaders after matches played on Wednesday, Dec. 3. After week eight, Roxanne Goulet is in first place with 26 points. There is a four-way tie for second between Doug Houle, Buzzy Blanchard, Jim Elwell, Luigi Pederzini and John Richardson who all have 25 points. In third place is Mike Koncal, Tim Wondoloski and Andy Baker who all have 24 points.

Basketball

The Greenfield Elks Hoop Shoot will be held at Franklin County Technical School on Saturday, Dec. 13 at 9:30 a.m.. For boys and girls ages 8-13. Age as of April 1, 2026.
