To celebrate the start of fall, the Erving Recreation Commission will hold its annual Fall Festival on Saturday, Sept. 27, and the Gill Agricultural Commission will offer its annual Harvest Festival on Sunday, Sept. 28.
From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Erving’s free Fall Festival will feature roughly 30 food and merchandise vendors, plus activities for all ages at Veterans Memorial Field, 8 Moore St.
Erving Recreation Commission Chair Thomas Glennon said vendors will include farmers with fresh vegetables and maple syrup sellers. Activities will include a K-9 demonstration led by Erving Police Officer Laura Gordon and her partner Ziva, and the Erving Fire Department will bring an engine. Bounce houses will be there for younger kids to enjoy.
“As a Recreation Commission, we want to make sure that we have availability for everyone in town, from all different walks of life and all different ages, to enjoy the things that we can do,” Glennon said about the festival, which is one of the larger events the commission hosts each year. “This is one of the things that we can do to bring everybody in town together and from the surrounding communities together.”
Also on Saturday, Gill will start its weekend festivities with a community dance at Gill Town Hall. The dance will start at 6 p.m. with a lesson for beginners, then the family dance will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. The evening will continue with square dances and contra dances from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Andy Davis and Friends will provide music.
On Sunday, Gill’s free Harvest Festival on the town common will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Farms and craftspeople will sell their products, plus there will be hayrides, a coin search in sawdust for children, a tractor display and livestock to visit.
