GREENFIELD โ Greenfield homeowners ages 60 and up may apply to participate in the Senior Tax Work-Off Program between Sept. 2 and Sept. 30.
The program allows eligible homeowners to work off a portion of their real estate tax bill, up to $2,000. Income limits apply: $66,960 for a single household or $76,480 for a two-person household. According to the Greenfield Senior Center, the applicant’s name must be on the title and they must reside at the property for which they are applying.
Senior applicants must also have lived in Massachusetts for the last 10 years and must have owned and occupied real estate in Greenfield for the previous five years. According to the Mayor’s Office, background checks are required.
An intake application is necessary, followed by a full application if the senior is accepted to the program. Those who are new to the tax work-off program are encouraged by the Senior Center to request an interview with Council on Aging Director Hope Macary to discuss their qualifications and preferences for work placement.
Intake applications are available starting Sept. 2 at the Greenfield Senior Center, 35
Pleasant St., Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Completed applications must be returned to the front desk no later than Sept. 30.
If more than 25 qualified people apply, a lottery will be held. Seniors must have identifiable employable skills that match a city department’s needs.
Placement notifications will be announced in October. The work period for calendar year 2026 runs Jan. 2 through Oct. 31.
โThe Senior Tax Work-Off Program is invaluable to the city and our senior community,โ Mayor Ginny Desorgher said in a statement. โI look forward to welcoming the participants who will make a positive difference daily in assisting with city operations.โ
