CHARLEMONT — Design and build a cardboard sled to compete in this annual classic at the Berkshire East Ski Area — or just come to watch the cardboard sleds in action. Registration begins Sunday, March 26, at noon, and admission is free.
Afterward, sample a large variety of local chowders at the annual Chowderfest, held this year inside the Berkshire East Lodge, 66 Thunder Mountain Road, starting at 4 p.m. Taste the chowders, and cast a vote for your favorite. The event includes a 50/50 drawing and a drawing for $50 worth of MA Lottery Scratch Tickets. Admission is $7, and proceeds benefit the 2017 Yankee Doodle Days. The event is hosted by Friends of the Charlemont Fairgrounds.
HAWLEY — Until automated firearms licensing software is installed at the Hawley Town Office, Police Chief Jared Bellows will be holding his “Hawley office hours” in the Charlemont Police Station the second Wednesday of each month, from 5 to 7 p.m.
The Charlemont Police Station is located in the Charlemont Highway Department Building, off Route 2.
Bellows is police chief of both towns, and, until Hawley’s software is installed, Hawley residents will be able to have their licenses processed more quickly through the computerized system in Charlemont.
