Congressman Richard E. Neal will visit Heath on Monday afternoon, with the good news that the town’s Fire Department will be receiving an $88,343 federal grant.
According to Fire Chief Ken Gilbert, the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s “Assistance to Firefighters” grant will pay for a dozen sets of self-contained breathing apparatus — enough for the full department — along with helmets and other fire gear. Gilbert said the money will enable the department to replace some obsolete, outdated equipment.
Neal will be at the Heath Fire Department, at 124 Branch Hill Road, at about 1 p.m.
After Neal’s visit to Heath, he and state Rep. Paul Mark will go to Rowe, to see the site of the former Yankee Rowe Nuclear Power Plant, at 49 Rowe Road. They will view the site with Lenny Laffond, chairman of the Yankee Rowe Community Advisory Board.
Neal is running for re-election to Congress in the General Election in November.
