A “People over Pipelines” walk planned for today from Agawam to Suffield, Conn. is expected to draw 100 people opposed to Tennessee Gas Pipeline Co.’s proposed Connecticut Expansion Project through Otis State Forest.
Many of the participants are expected to be from the Pioneer Valley and from Franklin County, through which TGP planned to cross eight towns with its Northeast Energy Direct pipeline before that project was canceled last spring, according to Rosemary Wessel of No Fracked Gas in Mass., a co-sponsor of Saturday’s walk.
Aimed at stopping the Connecticut Expansion Project, which has been delayed by court appeals of a Massachusetts water quality certificate as well as an Army Corps of Engineers certificate, according to Wessel, the walk is scheduled to begin at noon with a rally at the company’s Agawam compressor station, which is slated for expansion.
