NORTHAMPTON — The Young@Heart Chorus, which was slated this weekend to give its first live performance in over two years, has been forced to postpone the show until June 9 after two of the elderly singers tested positive for COVID last weekend.
The group, after being forced to rehearse and perform mostly online beginning in March 2020, had returned to in-person rehearsals beginning in February, with plans to sing at the city’s Academy of Music April 30.
Last week, chorus founder and director Bob Cilman told the Gazette the group planned to rehearse without masks beginning this past Monday in preparation for singing at the Academy, and that all members of the group (and its supporting band) would be tested for COVID before the practices.
But last weekend, Cilman says, two of the singers received a positive test. “To be sure other Young@Heart singers did not also contract the virus, we have decided to postpone this weekend’s show,” he noted in an email.
All tickets for the April 30 show will be valid for the June 9 show, which takes place at 7:30 p.m. “We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause,” Cilman added.
