CONWAY — The town’s leaders are asking residents to conserve water as the state continues to experience harsh drought conditions.
David Chichester, Conway’s emergency manager, wrote in a letter to residents Tuesday that the Selectboard recently issued a public statement asking residents to limit outdoor water use and to be careful with how much water they use indoors.
“Towns throughout the Commonwealth are experiencing some degree of drought,” said John O’Rourke, the board’s chairman, according to the letter. “Conway residents depend on wells for their water supply. Some of these wells are lower than normal at this time. All residents need to practice water conservation until these drought conditions end.”
Robert Baker, Conway’s fire chief and a Selectboard member, urged caution using grills, matches, candles, or open flames outdoors due to extremely dry conditions.
“Conway is as dry as I’ve ever seen,” Baker said, according to the letter. “Residents need to be extremely careful with fire and conserve water so that our fire ponds and streams maintain a level of water we can use if it becomes necessary.”
