SHELBURNE FALLS — Khalif Neville, son of the ‘first family of New Orleans music,’ is set to perform a free show at Floodwater Brewing Co. Saturday at 8 p.m.

Khalif Neville’s performance comes only a few days after the death of his uncle, Art Neville, a musician who made up one-third of the renowned New Orleans funk trio the Neville Brothers, the Los Angeles Times reported. Art Neville died on Monday at age 81.

The trio’s other two members included Khalif Neville’s father, Charles, who died last year, and another uncle, Aaron. 

While only in his early 20s, Khalif Neville has established himself as a musician in his own right. He is part of his own musical trio, ‘Khalif Neville & Co,” and has released a couple of albums. He is a songwriter, bassist, pianist and producer, “specializing in funky grooves,” according to his Facebook page.

Khalif Neville is local to this region. While he spent his early years in New Orleans, He was raised in Huntington, where he studied music with his father, NEPR reported. As a high-schooler, he joined the jazz band at South Hadley’s Pioneer Valley Performing Arts Charter School.

Floodwater Brewing Co., located at 40 State St., opened early this year. Since, the brewery has hosted events like comedy nights and musical performances on a weekly basis.
