DEERFIELD – A person driving north on Interstate 91 Friday afternoon was transported to a hospital following a two-vehicle crash authorities believe was caused by a driver looking at the scene of an accident that had occurred minutes earlier in the southbound lane.
The first accident, which resulted in one person being taken to the hospital, was a single-vehicle crash involving a Ford Escape at 3 p.m. The second crash involved a Lexus SUV and a Chevrolet Silverado. Trooper Michael Szawlowski of the Massachusetts State Police’s Shelburne barracks said both accidents occurred near the weigh stations, near the Lee Road overpass.
Szawlowski did not know the conditions of the crash victims at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, though he believed the northbound victim’s injuries were minor. He also said he believed each vehicle involved had one occupant.
