Mac Sloan-Anderson finished first overall, pacing the Four Rivers Charter School boys’ cross country team to a third-place finish in a River Valley Athletic League meet held Wednesday at Stoneleigh-Burnham School in Greenfield.
Sloan-Anderson led the pack with a time of 17 minutes, 57 seconds for the Otters, who finished behind The Dublin School and The Berkshire Arts & Technology Charter Public School.
Eli Smith was next for Four Rivers in fifth place (19:30), followed by fellow scoring runners Charles Dean (14th, 21:12), Jayden Skelly (16th, 22:04) and Rufus Seward (22nd, 23:11).
Lily Harris-Hendry was 19th overall (30:16) to pace the girls’ team on the day, followed by teammates Sophie Jacobson-Carroll (22nd, 31:16) and Tove Schweitzer (27th, 33:48).
In the middle school race, Gage Bennett powered the boys’ team with a first-place time of 10:41 on the 1.4-mile course. Olivia Vassar was first across for the girls’ team in second overall (12:57), while Katie Deso took third in the girls’ race with a time of 13:34.
Deerfield Academy
Deerfield Academy allowed one or fewer goals for the fourth time in five games, and the Big Green picked up their ninth win of the season thanks to a 4-1 victory over Worcester Academy in a prep school field hockey game Wednesday in Worcester.
In addition to the field hockey win, DA also captured a 15-9 win over Loomis Chaffee School in boys’ water polo.
The boys’ soccer team dropped a 4-2 decision at home to Worcester while the volleyball team was swept by Amherst, 3-0.
Middle School
Connor Sluder had a solid game defensively, forcing a fumble and recording a pair of tackles for losses, but Mahar Middle School dropped a 26-0 decision to Pioneer Valley Regional School on Tuesday.
Deavin McGivern recovered a fumble for Mahar, while Connor Knechtel snagged an interception on the day.
No Pioneer information was provided.
Men’s touch football
Jon Hall threw three touchdowns, including two in the fourth quarter, as Travel Kuz got past Hubie’s Tavern, 20-6, in a Greenfield Men’s Touch Football League game played Sunday at Green River Park.
Shane Andrews caught two touchdowns in the win, while Adam Bastarache had the third.
Hubie’s quarterback CJ Brady connected with Mak Rogers for his team’s lone TD of the game, a 28-yarder.
• Elsewhere, Sirum moved into second place in the league thanks to a 21-0 win over the Falcons.
Quarterback Jesse Phelps threw touchdowns to Parker Hickey, Tyler Leroux and Chris Hart in the victory.
The Falcons were led by Mike Murray and George Smith.
• Finally, Between The Uprights kept its bid for a perfect season alive with a 26-0 shutout of Rocketfusion.com.
Pat Viencek tossed two touchdowns to Jake Field and one to Jake MacLeay, while Curtis Weaver also hauled in a 31-yard TD.
Nick Aldrich, Tyson Dowdy and CJ Peterson had strong games for Rocketfusion.com.
FCFC tryouts
The Franklin County Football Club will conduct tryouts for its Under-16 and Under-18 boys’ soccer teams on Nov. 5 and Nov. 12 on the turf field at Deerfield Academy.
Tryouts will run from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on each day. The teams will play matches on Sunday afternoons in the spring from April 1 through Memorial Day. Teams will train twice a week during the evening during that time.
