HAWLEY — Two residents are running to fill a vacant Selectboard seat in the May 2 annual town election: Hussain Hamdan and Courtney Ann Hoyt.
Hamdan has been a Hawlemont School Committee member for several years and has also served on other town boards, including the town Communications Committee.
Hoyt is a member of the Hawlemont School Committee and has also served as an election officer.
The following incumbents will appear on the ballot unopposed. All are for three-year terms unless otherwise noted:
Board of Assessors, Ed Brady; Local Education Council/School Committee Suzanne Crawford; Moderator (one year) Kirby “Lark” Thwing and Technology Committee Rick Kean.
Town Auditor Carla Clark is seeking re-election through a write-in vote, according to Town Clerk Pamela Shrimpton.
Buckland special town meeting Thursday
BUCKLAND — A special town meeting is set for Thursday, seeking roughly $149,000 for the town’s share of the Clesson Brook Road bridge replacement project. The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Town Hall.
The requested money is to come from the following sources: $33,132 from Community Development Block Grant Program income; $12,500 from the unspent balance of a CDBG match from fiscal year 2009; $3,500 from a CDBG application expense account; and $100,000 from the General Stabilization Account.
