Art show benefits Bernardston 1739 Meetinghouse restoration

BERNARDSTON — All are welcome to attend an opening reception today at 1 p.m., for a new art show, “Beverly Phelps Paintings and Photographs,” on the first floor and front foyer of the 1739 Unitarian Meetinghouse, 49 Church St. Show hours are Wednesdays, 9:30 a.m. to noon, Sundays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Saturday, Nov. 19, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Other times by arrangement: 413-330-0807. North County Thanksgiving Service: Sunday at 7

NORTHFIELD — Clergy and laity from local and surrounding towns will join in an ecumenical Thanksgiving service on Sunday evening, Nov. 20, at 7 p.m., hosted by Trinitarian Congregational Church, 147 Main St. This is an intergenerational and interdenominational community service. The combined church choirs will be directed by Heather Tower. Refreshments will follow.

Movie, ‘Woodlawn,’ to be shown Sunday evening at 6 p.m.

GREENFIELD — “Woodlawn,” the number one Christian movie of the year, is being shown for the second time at Living Waters Assembly of God, 450 Davis St., on Sunday evening at 6 p.m. “Woodlawn” dramatizes the true story of how Woodlawn High School football team in Alabama overcame racism and discrimination violence and became the leading influence to bring peace, unity and harmony during the civil rights movement. It’s story is just as applicable in a divided America today, says Pastor David Levandusky. Admission is free. Refreshments will follow.

Ecumenical West County Service: Tuesday at 7:30

ASHFIELD — The Ecumenical West County Thanksgiving service will be held at St. John’s Episcopal Church on Main Street on Tuesday, Nov. 22 at 7:30 p.m. Those interested in joining the choir are invited to come at 6:30 p.m. to rehearse. Robert Jonas will deliver the homily.

Christmas Concert: Dec. 3 in Turners

TURNERS FALLS — A Christmas Concert, in preparation for the birth of the Lord, featuring the Schola Nova, the talented Pioneer Valley a cappella choir, will take place Saturday, Dec. 3, at 7 p.m., at Our Lady of Peace Church, 90 Seventh St. The Choir will present a Service of Lessons and Carols, which is the Christmas Eve Service held each year at King’s College Chapel in Cambridge, England. This is an excellent way to get into the spirit of the season and a remarkable musical opportunity. There will be a free-will offering.

BERNARDSTON — “First Saturdays with Steve,” a writing group led by Rev. Steve Wilson, is set for Saturday, Dec. 3 at 4 p.m., at the 1739 Bernardston Unitarian Meetinghouse, 49 Church St. New participants are welcome. Writing assignment: Write a story that involves you and a car.

GREENFIELD — There will be a Christmas Carol Sing and Concert to be held at the Greenfield High School on Saturday, Dec. 3, at 6 p.m. Everyone is invited to this free event. We will be singing many of your favorite Christmas carols as well as selections from the 4D1G Gospel Quartet, Valley Revival Choir, Dennis Ainsworth on piano and other gifted singers and musicians.

GREENFIELD — Saint James is collecting mittens to install in a display on their front lawn that the community will be invited to help assemble on Sunday, Dec. 11, at 11 a.m. and which will remain up for National Gun Violence Prevention Sabbath Week. On Wednesday, Dec. 14, at 4 p.m., we will gather on the fourth anniversary of Sandy Hook for a Community Gun Violence Prevention Vigil.
