Fiery Hope chorus to perform outside library

GREENFIELD — The Greenfield Public Library’s next installment of “Meet Your Neighbors” will feature choral group Fiery Hope, directed by Eveline MacDougall. The group will perform under the library tent on Tuesday, Aug. 30, at 4:30 p.m.

Fiery Hope began in 1988 in the form of a chorus called Amandla. Members started by singing exclusively South African freedom songs as part of anti-apartheid work, but have since added songs from many different cultures, as well as original compositions from MacDougall.

Throughout the free performance, MacDougall — who is also a Home & Garden writer for the Greenfield Recorder — will read passages from her book, “Fiery Hope,” a retrospective view of the social justice chorus. Copies of the book will be available for purchase. Her homemade envelopes and library-themed stationary will also be available.
